Trusts the Word of the Lord Especially in Times Of Hardship
St Polycarp had an abundance of great faith and trust in God. This is shown through his quote at his martyrdom: “ever truthful God has foreordained, hast revealed beforehand to me and now last fulfilled.” This is referring to the vision he had 3 days prior when his pillow seemed to be on fire, foretelling of his martyr attempt.
Also, the action of nailing him to the stake would prove to be unnecessary shows that he trusted in God to give him strength in the face of death. Another statement that shows this is: “Bring forth what you will.”, referring to any means of killing the proconsul had mentioned including wild beasts and fire.
Having trust and faith in someone is seen today by the youth trusting their family and friends for advice, strength and courage as Polycarp had with God.
